We want a future where diabetes can do no harm. We need your help as we unite in the fight against Australia’s biggest health crisis. Speak Out and help us to Spark Change.
Together, we can change lives.
Millions of Australians are living with diabetes, and the impact is significant. People with diabetes are at the heart of everything we do at Diabetes Australia. We know that no one understands diabetes better than you, and that’s why your views and opinions are so important.
Speak Out to Spark Change.
The impact of the rising cost of living
8 October 2024
The rising cost of living is having a serious impact on all Australians, including people living with diabetes. As essential goods and services become more expensive, many people are facing difficult choices about how to afford the health care they need.
Affordable access to Automated Insulin Delivery (AID)
22 May 2024
Australians living with diabetes should have equitable access to the technology they need to live well. However, there are significant gaps in access. We’re fighting for subsidised access to AID systems for adults living with type 1 diabetes. Share with us how affordable access to AID would improve your diabetes management and your quality of life.
CGM for All
12 July 2023
Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and flash glucose monitoring (Flash GM) technology has changed the lives of tens of thousands of Australians living with type 1 diabetes. There are thousands of other Australians who would benefit from this technology but can’t access it because it is too expensive. Share with us how subsidised access to CGM or Flash GM would improve your diabetes management and your quality of life.
Diabetes screening in community pharmacies
6 December 2023
Early detection of type 2 diabetes through screening and diagnosis provides opportunities for earlier treatment, improved quality of life and complication prevention. We are keen to understand our community’s perspective on this model, that we can share with the Government and help support increased screening for undiagnosed type 2 diabetes.
Airport security and diabetes medications and devices
9 November 2023
With diabetes medical devices becoming more advanced and more accessible, some people living with diabetes have told us they are having challenges getting through airport security screening. We want to spark change to ensure rules are applied consistently and airport workers are educated so we can improve the experience for people living with diabetes.
More funding for research
Diabetes research saves lives and creates hope. But over the last ten years investment in diabetes research has been reduced even as more people are diagnosed with the condition. We need to increase funding to ensure Australia’s world-class diabetes researchers have the funding and resources they need to continue their work.
“Over my 40-year journey with type 1 diabetes, the cost of living with the condition has been and still is extremely stressful: it’s both emotionally and financially draining. From the time I was diagnosed, I witnessed my immediate family struggle financially and emotionally too. To be honest, I don’t know how Mum and Dad did it. From the age of 18, I have worked to keep myself alive. Is it easy? NO WAY!
I welcome and encourage the Federal Government Inquiry into Diabetes in Australia. More needs to be done about the costs to keep people living with diabetes alive. I’m thankful for the changes that have already happened; however, more needs to be done. Take away some of the stress, especially for people like me, who work full time to fund our diabetes journey. Thank you.”

When Australia’s diabetes community is united in the fight for change, we can achieve anything.
